Could I have my own version of digital twin?

Digital twin

Artificial intelligence continues to have a science fiction aura, we imagine machines and systems that are capable of thinking for themselves or learning from their own experiences as if they were characters from 90s movie directed by Steven Spielberg.

The reality is that these kinds of systems are currently being applied to companies in many sectors. Today we are capable of creating digital models of our production chains, logistics, of the one single machinery that we use in part of a process or they can even be applied in manufacturing companies with a strong involvement of human labor in order to be able to simulate changes or improvements in the processes and analyzing their results with a controlled cost.

  • What happens if I duplicate my workforce?
  • What happens if I change my van fleet?
  • What do I get if I increase the productive capacity in one of my machines?
  • How does my production change if I implement a night shift? Do my costs skyrocket, do my income assume it?

A digital twin can answer countless questions like these, it can identify possible bottlenecks in another step process after making a decision that seemed clear, it can evaluate improvements in savings or efficiency of each possible decision. In a nutshell, and summarizing broadly, it offers the possibility of testing different scenarios digitally without having to assume the cost of implementing them in the real world.

Today we know that this type of technology helps to make optimal decisions, being able to explore a large amount of “what if” and giving alternatives that escape the most obvious paths. The machine has no restrictions other than those that are modeled, so it can explore without bias.

The BBC echoes that in its article: https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-61821003, shows us that AI is no longer just a thing of science fiction and suggests that we could find the first versions of digital twins for humans in the next ten years.

What is already a reality in many companies, and will end up being a market standard in all those companies that make important decisions, begins to have an echo in the human or recreational application, reality and science fiction in this case, As often happens, they begin to look at themselves in the mirror face to face.
